English Buddy is an outreach ministry of HCC where we seek to share God’s love and Gospel message with internationals by being English conversation partners and building friendships. We do this in three primary ways.

• 1-on-1 Pairing. You are matched with an international “buddy” as an English conversation partner and friend. You can hang out over a meal/coffee, play sports together, or just communicate over email! You can also be an American resource for them if they have any questions about Houston or America.
• Group Socials. We host group socials throughout the year to share the Gospel in big events like Christmas and Easter. We also celebrate different holidays to learn more about each other’s cultures. These group socials also provide an opportunity for everyone to meet others also in the ministry. In addition to Christmas and Easter, we plan events for Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese New Year, and many more. Due to COVID-19, all group socials have been temporarily suspended. 
• English Corner. This is an hour-long session held online via Zoom every other Sunday from 2:30pm – 3:30pm to give internationals another opportunity to practice speaking English in a smaller group setting. Each Sunday, we will pick a topic to discuss and hear one another’s thoughts.

This outreach is not possible without the help of volunteers like you! You can choose to be involved in just one aspect or all!

You only need two things to be a volunteer for English Buddy:

• You can speak English
• You are willing to step out of your comfort zone and share God and your life with internationals coming from differing backgrounds and cultures
