The book of Exodus has been aptly described as the Old Testament gospel. That is, it contains the good news of salvation through Moses that ultimately foreshadows the final salvation of God’s people through a Second Moses. In this sense, the first two chapters help illustrate a human condition that we share with the ancient Israelites – our deep bonds of slavery and our great need for deliverance.
