Interim HCC Cantonese Pastor/Minister

Purpose: Houston Chinese Church is looking for an individual who has demonstrated strong pulpit skills and will share the workload with the present ministerial staff to shepherd the Cantonese-speaking congregation for a one-year term, renewable as needed. We are seeking an individual who has demonstrated integrity, teachability, and a Christ-like character. This person must be self-motivated in carrying out the daily pastoral responsibilities, which include the ministry skills listed below. 

Relationship: Accountable to the Lead Chinese Pastor but to work closely with the pastoral team. 

Education: Master of Divinity degree or higher from an accredited seminary. 

Experience: Prefer 3 or more years of pastoral ministry experience in North America. 

Language: Cantonese, conversational Mandarin and English. 

Marital Status: Married preferred, but not required. 

Ministry Skills: 

• Communicates God's Word effectively in preaching and teaching. 
• Has a conviction for discipleship and has practiced it both formally and informally. 
• Is a team player who listens well yet expresses his thoughts; who respects and submits to others. Has the heart of a shepherd and servant; leads by example in his personal, family and ministry life. 
• Communicates well with others. 
• Develops and implements personal and ministry objectives. 
• Delegates responsibilities to others and provides supervision. 
• Provides counseling (personal growth, premarital and marital) and willing to acquire such skills through additional classes and training. 
• Is sensitive to ministry in a Chinese and Western culture and value setting. 
• Is able to minister to families at different stages of life. 

Responsibilities: This person will collaborate with the ministerial staff in planning and implementing various projects and programs within the church as a whole. 

• Preaching/ Teaching
  • Regular preaching in the Cantonese worship service. 
  • Teach in Adult Sunday School, fellowship groups, and other occasions as needed. 
• Leading
  • Participate with the Cantonese Ministry Coworkers team to plan and coordinate the ministry
  • Collaborate with coworkers to develop strategies for community outreach and discipleship of believers. 
• Caring 
  • Provide visitation for members 
  • Provide counseling to church members as needs arise.

Pearland Campus English Minister/Pastor (Full Time)

Purpose: Houston Chinese Church (HCC) is looking for a full-time English Minister/Pastor for its Pearland Campus. Serving in an immigrant church, this individual should have a clear calling to minister to the second-generation. The English congregation at Pearland consists of approximately 30 adults and teenagers. While focused on the English ministry of the Pearland Campus, if needed, this individual will participate with various ministries of HCC.

Relationship: Until the Pearland campus is launched independently as Pearland Chinese Church, this individual will serve as a member of the HCC ministerial team, under the supervision of HCC’s Lead English Pastor. This individual will be expected to work closely with a Pearland Chinese Minister/Pastor and Campus Leadership Team.

Education: Master of Divinity or higher from an accredited seminary (or currently pursuing an M.Div. degree)

Experience: 2+ years experience in church ministry in North America (volunteer or staff)

Language: Fluency in English required; knowledge of Mandarin language a plus

Relationship: Reports to the Lead English Pastor, expected to work closely with a Pearland Chinese Minister/Pastor

Responsibilities:

1. Work with the Chinese Minister/Pastor to facilitate the Campus Leadership Team (CLT)
   • Provide vision and direction for the English ministry of the Pearland Campus
   • Work with the Chinese Minister/Pastor and the CLT to guide the Pearland Campus to independence
      
2. Provide leadership and oversight of the adult English and youth ministries
   • Sunday English Service
     • Regularly preach in English service and occasionally in the monthly Combined service
     • Oversee preaching schedule and finding guest speakers
     • Oversee service planning and the administration of the ordinances
   • Friday Youth Fellowship
     • Develop curriculum
     • Lead weekly Friday fellowship activities (i.e. Bible study, devotion, discussion, games, etc.)
   • Sunday School
     • Develop curriculum and regularly teach a class
     • Coordinate a team of volunteer teachers
   • Special events and retreats
      
3. Develop a team of adult lay leaders (English Ministry Team) and personally invest in student leaders for the youth group
4. Champion parents as disciple-makers and work with families in the discipleship of their youth
5. Develop a strategy to outreach to unbelievers and the unchurched in the Pearland community
6. Provide counseling to English congregation members as needs arise
7. Work with the CLT in setting and stewarding the annual budget
8. Participate in HCC meetings and other duties as assigned until the Pearland Campus is independent and such participation is no longer necessary

1. A baptized believer of Jesus Christ who demonstrates integrity, grace, and love for the church
2. Agrees completely with Houston Chinese Church’s Articles of Faith, Constitution, mission, and core values
3. Knowledge of adolescent spiritual development and approaches to ministry to youth
4. Strong interpersonal, communication, management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
5. Sensitive to Chinese and Western cultures and values

Children’s Ministry Summer Intern (Part Time)

HCC has an opening for a Children’s Ministry Summer Intern to run from in mid-May 2026 to August 2026 (actual length of internship will be negotiable). The summer Kidmin Intern will work closely with the Children’s Minister and his team in learning about children's ministry preparation, implementation and teaching. Aside from weekday office hours, he/she should be available to work on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings. 

Qualifications:

• High school junior and above
• Teachable and trainable.
• Able to work legally in the United States.
• Have the support of your family in this endeavor.
• Agree with church’s doctrinal statement 
• Must adhere to our church’s policy for the protection of children and youth, including completing any online training
• Must pass a background check

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Attend, observe, and when necessary, lead in Kids Ministry ages 3 through 5th grade.
• Attend weekly meetings with the Church Ministry Staff.
• Learn to clearly communicate the vision and mission of the church, as applied to Children’s Ministry
• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills To Learn:

• Ability to communicate the Bible through various means and to children at various ages
• Theological understanding in conversion and spiritual growth of children
• Knowledge in the needs and learning styles of children at various developmental stages
• Leadership and communication skills in children's ministry

Nursery Caregiver (Part Time)

Houston Chinese Church (HCC) is looking for nursery caregivers to lovingly care for babies and toddlers. Beginning in 1975, HCC now has English, Mandarin, and Cantonese-speaking congregations, with Sunday attendance around 1000, and total children’s attendance of approximately 150 kids (~40 of which are nursery-age). At HCC, we aim to provide quality care and supervision of children in a secure, nurturing environment where each child will see, hear, and feel the love of Jesus Christ and parents can feel confident their child will receive great care and teaching.

Responsibilities & Duties:  At all times, two adults will be present in the nursery classrooms to provide nurture and care. The Nursery Caregivers will set-up the childcare space prior to the children’s arrival, welcome children and parents, pay attention to any specific concerns or needs the parent shares, and provide structure for playtime, snacks, & rest (as needed). This may include learning the names of the children and parents, reading books, singing songs, playing games, and assisting children with hand-washing & eating snacks, changing diapers, holding, rocking, and supporting the safety of the classroom through behavior management. It is the Nursery Caregiver’s responsibility to be sure that all children are cared for in an appropriate manner.

Time Required:  Nursery Caregivers will be scheduled for weekly events (Friday 7:00pm-9:00pm and/or Sunday 9:15am-12:15pm) and on an as-needed basis. All Nursery Caregivers are part-time. Caregivers are expected to be present approximately 30 minutes before the scheduled event and should stay until all the children in their care have been picked up by their parents and the classroom is cleaned up.

Skills needed/to be developed:  A love of children, behavior management skills, and the gifts of hospitality, patience, kindness, and joy. Caregivers should also desire to provide care to the children and should consider the children in their care their number one priority while working. Some experience with parenting, childcare, and/or teaching infants/toddlers is necessary. Fluent in English is required and fluent in Chinese is a plus!

Training Required:  According to Policies, HCC will conduct a criminal background check on all staff and volunteers working with children. Staff must also complete an orientation/training session once a year and additional continuing education in-services, as needed and/or as requested by the Children’s Ministry Team.
