The conscience is a tender thing. You have to guard it, care for it, and listen to it. With proper handling, your conscience will grow strong and healthy. But if you sear your conscience - by continued neglect and abuse - then it will harden and desensitize. It will no longer function properly and warn you of the dangers of sin and judgement.
