The French reformer John Calvin once wrote that the prime motive of his existence is zeal to illustrate the glory of God. He was convinced that Catholic dogma had obscured and diminished God’s glory. So in protest, he committed his life to speaking and serving in such a way that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. That is the prime motive found in this morning’s passage.
